The Lyon ‘Dead Mall’ is Actually the Passage Balthus in Autun, and is Very Much Alive

Yesterday we featured this striking photo of an abandoned shopping centre, or dead mall, thought to be in Lyon, France. But an ongoing debate on Reddit cast doubt on its whereabouts, especially since several of those weighing-in on the conversation were Lyon-based urban explorers who were unfamiliar with the building. But now redditor Qat may have tracked down its genuine location – and it turns out that it’s not in Lyon, nor is it a dead mall any longer!
The abandoned shopping mall bears are striking resemblance to the Passage Balthus in the commune of Autun, Burgundy, 117 miles to the north of Lyon. The grand arcade (below) was renamed Passage Balthus following a major refurbishment.
