The Abandoned Harbour at Port Mulgrave, Yorkshire

(Image: Paul Allison, cc-sa-4.0)
The third and final installment in our miniseries covering the abandoned Grinkle Park Ironstone mine and its associated tramway, the derelict harbour at Port Mulgrave has been disused for decades and virtually reclaimed by the sea. It was here that narrow-gauge locomotives – hauling trucks of raw materials from the mine – would terminate, their loads transferred to boats for transportation elsewhere. The old Grinkle mine has largely disappeared today, though the collapsing and highly dangerous culvert of the Easington beck is still evident. So too is the abandoned Ridge Lane Tramway Tunnel and track bed, which connected the mine site to Port Mulgrave harbour.
